Scientists have created a robotic snake that can crawl, climb, swim and scale flights of stairs.
These versatile robots are designed for reaching humans who have had accidents in inaccessible places, like mountain areas or collapsed buildings. They could prove vital to emergency relief in areas that are affected by natural disasters, like floods, earthquakes and tornados. The robotic animal was created inside the Biorobotics Lab at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

On their website, the researchers outline their mission statement.

It says: “The Biorobotics Lab reduces complicated high-dimensional problems found in robotics to low-dimensional simpler ones for design, analysis, and planning.
Often, we look to biology for inspiration and sometimes, we return the favor by providing analysis that models biology.”

Manchester United Player Banned From Driving

FG Plans To Phase Out Sachet Water (Pure Water)

The Federal Ministry of Environment has developed a draft action plan for the phasing out of light weight non-biodegradable plastics in the country, a top official of the ministry, said, yesterday. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja, said that the draft action plan had already been adopted by stakeholders in the sector. He recalled that the ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO, had in December 2013, organised a workshop to sensitise Nigerians on the process. The police in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have arrested and charged a dog with biting a bank worker’s penis at Idowu Anisere Street, off Governor’s Road in Ikotun, Lagos. The police also charged the owner of the dog, Adebowale Gabriel, 31, before Mrs M.B. Folami at Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court Lagos.

The dog was specifically charged with assault, while Gabriel was charged with negligence under the Criminal Code. The arrest of the dog and Gabriel followed a complaint by the victim, Mr. Simon Anwam, to the police in Ikotun division that when he was walking on the street, the dog pounced on him and inflicted deep injury on his penis. Igbo Deportees Seek 1 Billion Naira Compensation From Lagos State

The suit filed by over 80 Igbo ‘deportees’ against the Lagos State Government came up on Thursday at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, with the plaintiffs demanding a compensation of 1 billion Naira (about 6.3 million dollars) .

Seven plaintiffs filed the suit on behalf of 66 others and they are jointly seeking the compensation from the Lagos State government as general damages for breach of their rights.

The seven plaintiffs are; Joseph Aniebonam, Osondu Mbuto, Osondu Agwu, Nnenna Ogbonna, Emily Okoroariri, Friday Ndukwe and Onyeka Ugwu.

Joined as respondents are the Attorney-General of Lagos State and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State. When the case was mentioned in court, the counsel representing the plaintiffs, Mr Ugo Ugwunnadi, told the court that the case was coming up for the first time.

A report by the Commons public accounts committee found that the Queen's advisers were failing to control her finances and her courtiers have been advised to take money-saving tips from the treasury, The Telegraph reported.

MPs said her advisers had overspent to such an extent that her reserve fund had fallen from 35 million pounds in 2001 to just 1 million pounds today.

Ex-NAICOM chief gets 15- year sentence

An Abuja High Court on Wednesday sentenced Okechukwu Chukwulozie, a former Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to 15 years in prison over N10.4 million fraud. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in 2007 charged Chukwulozie, his wife, Angela; and a former Deputy Commissioner in charge of Finance and Administration, Adedolapo Ogungbe on 15 counts of N10.4 million fraud.

As President Goodluck Jonathan prepares for his re-election next year, Kano State Governor, Dr. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso has warned that Jonathan is not qualified to contest for presidency in 2015.
According to the governor, any attempt by Jonathan to run in the next poll will amount to a third term in office, which is not acceptable to most Nigerians. Kwankwaso, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, yesterday, advised President Jonathan to take urgent steps to solve the raging insecurity challenges in the North-East and stabilise the Nigerian economy and take a bow from governance in 2015, when he would have attained the eight-year maximum limit stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.

Officials raid Enugu deputy governor’s home

Officials of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) and the Ministry of Environment, yesterday raided the official residence of the Enugu State Deputy Governor Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, carting away over 3,000 egg layer chickens and about 40 crates of eggs from his poultry farm.

The officials, led by their commissioners, Messrs Ikechukwu Ugwuegede and Nnaemeka Chukwuone, arrived at the lodge about 1pm to inform the deputy governor of their intention.

They said the poultry farm was constituting public health hazard.
